Status bar is no longer customizable

In previous releases I could customize the status bar so that for example I had quick access to the language switcher or - just as important - I could select the font and the font size in a rich text field.
I seems that these options are gone which is a major hassle to me since it was so much more comfortable than to work with the properties box.
PLEASE GIVE US THIS FUNCTIONALITY BACK!!!
